those quiet moments

The homestead always feels really quiet when j gets back on the boat. Everything goes low key when it's just me and my crew of critters. More quiet walks in the rain. More single cups of coffee in the carafe. Only the dogs to greet me when I get in the door at the end of the day. This is the time to get some rentals that j wouldn't be into, eat tofu and drink too much tequila with some ladies I just don't see often enough...

Redondo Beach and the rest of the rock and roll frontier is playing while I'm attempting to get my week kind of sorted. Here's hoping...

hockey night in Canada

Saturdays when j's home usually mean a big pot of coffee, dog walks and hockey. If there's one thing I like more than watching my team play on tv it's watching it live - whether it's j on the ice or the timbits game. So much nostalgia for the game. Love that it brings friends and family together. If there's anything that brings Canadians together it's hockey.

a novel idea

not that I need more distractions from the things I really need to get done around the house.

but a good book is something I've always have handy ...for those moments when I feel everything is fairly tidy and I want to make good use of a chair or a ray of sunshine or a cup of tea or a glass of wine or a bubble bath, a book is always my go-to. here's a list of the best 100 books from the last 100 years or so. in alphabetical order.

home office help

I could get a lot of work done at home if this was at the homestead... that chair. that lamp. that phone. that natural light. love it. need it. have to have it. I think it's about time to reorganize the home office.

my city

Even though I often think about when I (hopefully) will find a place not far from here with enough space for my litter of animals, family and friends... I will always love Vancouver. This clip captures a whole lot of why I love the city so much.

domestic bliss.

For anyone (and everyone) that needs a little help being inspired for dinner ideas, lunch ideas, and picnic ideas (and there's so many more) you really need to check out the NYtimes the minimalist in the Dining and Wine section. I've got a bunch of ideas that are going to last me from this article alone... amazing!

you could not give me enough money to pose with snakes like that. just saying.

Alexander McQueen has some serious slither in his ss10 ad campaign. To be the model requires some serious skill. To quote myfashionlife 'piled under those pythons... is poor Raquel Zimmermann, who was wrapped in over 30 snakes for the spring campaign shot by Nick Knight.' 30 snakes? yikes. A bigger yikes to the shoes that you see but just don't want to believe.

all creatures great and small

The Bull Moose

Down from the purple mist of trees on the mountain,
lurching through forests of white spruce and cedar,
stumbling through tamarack swamps,
came the bull moose
to be stopped at last by a pole-fenced pasture.
Too tired to turn or, perhaps, aware
there was no place left to go, he stood with the cattle.
They, scenting the musk of death, seeing his great head
like the ritual mask of a blood god, moved to the other end
of the field, and waited.
The neighbours heard of it, and by afternoon
cars lined the road. The children teased him
with alder switches and he gazed at them
like an old, tolerant collie. The woman asked
if he could have escaped from a Fair.
The oldest man in the parish remembered seeing
a gelded moose yoked with an ox for plowing.
The young men snickered and tried to pour beer
down his throat, while their girl friends took their pictures.
And the bull moose let them stroke his tick-ravaged flanks,
let them pry open his jaws with bottles, let a giggling girl
plant a little purple cap
of thistles on his head.
When the wardens came, everyone agreed it was a shame
to shoot anything so shaggy and cuddlesome.
He looked like the kind of pet
women put to bed with their sons.
So they held their fire. But just as the sun dropped in the river
the bull moose gathered his strength
like a scaffolded king, straightened and lifted his horns
so that even the wardens backed away as they raised their rifles.
When he roared, people ran to their cars. All the young men
leaned on their automobile horns as he toppled.

classy ladies

I did not see either of these lovelies in my golden globe watching... although I admit that I didn't actually watch them I ended up doing something else and then attempted to 'catch up.' I missed a whole lot apparently...

Glen Close looked AMAZING in a black strapless number by Oscar De La Renta.

OH OSCAR! SEQUINS! You shouldn't have. (I have sources that tell me sequins are rough going... and I'm pretty sure that Oscar didn't skimp i.e. use fabric with sequins already attached. This dress was probably hours and hours of labour intensive sewing) I always love a good sequined dress though - and this one is the best I've seen in a long, long time.

Penelope Cruz always blows me away. Always.
Here she is wearing Armani Prive. Looking gorgeous.
